Sunday 26th May 2013

Today was a little cloudy when we first left home but, soon started to brighten up. We headed for the Ayres, Chris dropped me at Smeale so I could walk through and meet him at Ballaghennie. I walked along, taking pictures on the way.

Gorse

Green Tiger Beetle

Violet

Small Copper

Willow Warbler
Once I arrived at Ballaghennie, I looked for Lizards and found six basking in the sunshine.

We next went to the Point of Ayre where there were large numbers of Auks and an Eider group with five chicks

Guillemot

Razorbill
It started to quieten down so, we headed home, to go out again later. As the point apart from a small group of Sanderling (they were very flighty) we headed to the Phurt where I managed to get a shot of the Eider with chicks

Saturday 25th May 2013

There wasn't a posting last weekend as I was away in Derbyshire. Whilst waiting for Dave, I saw this yacht in the bay

This week we decided to head to Ballaglass, hopeful that the Bluebells would be at their peak but, first stop was Maughold Church.

We left Ballaglass and headed up to the burial site for lunch

Next stop was Ballaugh Glen. Though large parts of the plantation are closed, it is still possible to walk through to the pools to (hopefully) see Damselflies and, later in the year, Dragonflies

In the evening, as it was so nice, Chris and I decided to go out for a ride. Firstly, we went to the Point of Ayre and I took this silhouette of Chris

Next, we went to the Phurt. Chris spent some time trying to photograph the Sand Martins in flight whilst I went for a short walk on the beach

Saturday 11th May 2013

This weekend was National Mill Weekend with mills across the UK open to the public. On the island Kentraugh Mill was open so, first stop was the tour. The mill was really interesting and the guided tour was good but, not good for pictures due to the poor light and number of people

We next headed to the Sound for a short walk and some lunch

After we left the sound, we called into Port St Mary for a walk around the harbour area however, threatening rain cut our walk short.

As we headed back up North, we called into Ballaglass to see how the Bluebells were flowering - not very blue yet

Sunday 5th May 2013

Chris and I headed to Ballaghennie this morning. I started walking across the heath towards the plantation but, soon changed my mind.

As we weren't seeing much and the little that was there was being disturbed by dog walkers with dogs not on leads (despite the signs) we headed to the Point of Ayre. The round island yacht race was on today

With nothing much happening, we headed home. Later in the afternoon it brightened up so we headed out again. This time to Port Mooar

We then drove to Maughold Head
