This morning was grey and damp. Chris and I decided to head to the Point of Ayre where I did some tidelining, hopefully with some of the storms we've had, some interesting objects would be on the beach.
First find was a rubber glove - these are frequently found on the beach - the fishermen must lose hundreds each year.
A little further along I found a trainer - there must be lots of people who have somehow lost single shoes at the beach - I've not yet found a pair
Further along the beach I found a knitted glove, a scouring cloth and a car radio insert all close to each other
We then headed to Ballaghennie. The beach here is changing with an extra row of small dunes growing on the seaward side. Here too there was debris from the tides mostly bottles though, I did find a scouring brush
The wind was blowing the marram grass nearly flat in places and, not surprisingly, the beach was empty.
After a short while we headed home to the warmth and editing

It's amazing what you can find on the beach around these parts. I saw a television once when at the Ayres and when we lived in Port-e-Vullen many years ago the girls came running in to tell us that there was a dead whale on the beach. Not believing them we walked down to the beach, a matter of a couple of yards and sure enough there was a dead carcase that did resemble a small whale of sorts. Also a friend told me she listened to a radio show with regards to stuff being washed up on beaches and apparently if you threw overboard hundreds of pairs of shoes or trainers all the left ones would beach in one place and all the right in another.....Great piccies by the way.....
ReplyDeleteThanks. It is amazing what gets washed up, you do wonder how some of it ends up in the sea to start with.
